Department of Correction Orders Avalon to Shut Down

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma Department of Corrections officials have ordered a halfway house in Tulsa to shut down.

A letter from the department of corrections was sent to the Avalon Correctional Center in downtown Tulsa this week informing them that all residents need be removed by Jan. 24.

KTUL obtained a copy of the letter sent to Avalon that described there are three active investigations into the center's "serious infractions" ranging from possession of contraband to offender security.

"The violations are so serious that the Department will begin depopulating Avalon Tulsa immediately," the letter went on to state.

DOC officials added that no other offenders will be sent to Avalon until the investigations are complete. No further detail was given on the infractions reported.

KTUL checked with Avalon in Tulsa this morning. All calls are being directed to the central office in Oklahoma City.
