Joe Wickline Named Offensive Coordinator At Texas

Posted: Updated:

New Texas head coach Charlie Strong names Joe Wickline the Horns offensive coordinator.  The longtime Oklahoma State offensive line coach will also be the guy that calls the plays.

Strong made that announcement Wednesday at a press conference before all his new coaches hit the recruiting trail.

He called Wickline hard noised and praise him for what he did at Oklahoma State.  Strong was asked if it was strange for an o-line coach to be the coordinator and call the offense.

"No, it isn't because when you look across college football there are a lot of offensive line coaches that are coordinators." said Strong, "When you look at just the mix of run game and then get into the throw game it's not so much of him not knowing, but he can always ask what are you thinking on this or that or what are you looking for."

Wickline had been at OSU since 2005 and was the last remaining member of Mike Gundy’s original staff.
