The Chili Bowl Is An Addiction

Posted: Updated:

The Chili Bowl National attracts race car drivers and fans from all over the nation and from several different countries.  It's been called the Super Bowl of Midget Racing and for some it's an addiction that's tough to kick.

Even for the guys that race on the biggest of stages.  There are a dozen or so drivers that have NASCAR experience that are here this week, like Kasey Kahne... They try to make this event as often as they can because it's just fun to get back to their roots.

"The first time I came to the Chili Bowl it was 1994 with my dad." Kahne said, "I think Andy Hillenburg won that year.  We had come from Washington to watch it.  We'd heard so much about the show here.  It was exciting and fun and it still is today and that's why I come back.  It's a really tough race to win.  It's competitive and exciting and the fans support it like no other race.  It's a pretty neat week."

Wednesday night's A-Main qualifying race was won by New Castle, Indiana's Caleb Armstrong.  He held off 5-time Chili Bowl Champion Sammy Swindell who started the race 13th.  NASCAR standout J.J. Yeley flipped his car before the finish line and settled for 18th.

Thursday's hot laps start at 5:00pm and the races begin at 6:00pm.
