Health Officials Urge Public to Get Flu Shot After Child's Death

Posted: Updated:

You're being urged to get a flu shot, after a Tulsa County child died from influenza.

This is the first person under 18 to die from the flu, this season. This death makes 12 oklahomans to die from the illness.

We are in the middle of flu season, but health officials warn, it is not too late.

They say parents should protect themselves and their children.

"We definitely want to push people to get their flu shot even though there have been reports that we have reached our flu peak just because we reached our peak doesn't mean people stop getting sick," said Nicole Schlaefli, of the Tulsa County Health Department.

Flu season runs from October 1st to March 31st and the numbers of positive tests and hospitalizations have started to decline.
