Broken Arrow Hoping To Lure Over 500 New Jobs

Posted: Updated:

For now, it's just a vacant lot between two buildings, but before you know it...

"Urban housing Broken Arrow style," said Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce President Wes Smithwick.

Excitement for "The District @ 222," a four-story mixed use building with restaurant, retail, and 11 apartments.

"Probably the first new housing on Broken Arrow Main street in 50 years or more," he said.

A development that will add to the dramatic transformation of Main street witnessed by the nine year Main street business owner Christine Joseph of Nouveau Chocolate.

"You know, this is really what we envisioned and what we had hoped for," she said.

When she first moved in there were vacancies left and right, now?

"I worked here Saturday, it was cool because people were out here having a little cup of coffee, a little chocolate, I was like, all right! That's what we want," she smiled.

Adding to the excitement, word that the city is in talks with a major retail company poised to employ over 500 people, with roughly 25% of those jobs managerial. Who is it?

"Well, I can't tell you about any project that's under negotiations," said Smithwick.

News as hush hush as the ingredients in one of Christine's fabulous chocolates.

"Wow," she said.

Yeah, and if Christine has her way, that retailer will be Ikea.

"I'm hoping for that, I want one of those stores so badly. So, whoever's listening, city people," she smiled.
