Accused Tulsa Courthouse Shooter Found Guilty

Posted: Updated:

The jury found the man charged in the 2012 courthouse plaza shooting guilty this evening.

25-year-old Andrew Joseph Dennehy was charged with shooting with intent to kill in the courthouse plaza in March 2012, injuring a Tulsa County deputy, and will face 20 years in prison.

Dennehy pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. His parents said Dennehy is a paranoid schizophrenic in need of hospital treatment, not a maximum-security prison.

Dennehy faced charges of shooting with intent to kill, assault and battery on a police officer and attempting to escape arrest.

Closing arguments wrapped up and the jury went into deliberate the case around 3:40 p.m. today.

Earlier today, a juror was removed from the trial after being caught speaking to the defendant's mother during the break. An alternate juror replaced the one who was removed.

The full list of charges breaks down as follows;

Shooting with Intent to Kill - Guilty - 20 years with a $2,500 fine

Assault with a Dangerous Weapon - Not Guilty

Possession of a Firearm After Former Adjudication as a Delinquent - Guilty - 2 years with a $500 fine

Reckless Conduct with a Firearm - Guilty - 10 days with a $250 fine

Battery on a Deputy - Guilty - 6 months with a $250 fine

Attempted Escape - Guilty, 6 months

The formal sentencing is March 3 at 9 a.m.
