A student is recovering at an area hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Broken Arrow Wednesday afternoon.

Police told KTUL that the incident happened around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday at the South Intermediate High School. At the scene the found that a male cross country student, identified as Logan Henry, had been hit by a blue pickup.

Broken Arrow's school district said Henry was running with his North Intermediate High School teammates. Henry, 15, is a freshman there.

Upon further investigation it was determined that the truck belonged to Jordan Hunter. He left the scene and later returned and told police he was driving the vehicle at the time. Police said he reportedly told his mother about what had happened, and she followed him back to the scene. He was reportedly gone about 10 minutes.

Broken Arrow police took him into custody and booked him for leaving the scene of a serious injury collision.

Paramedics stated that Henry is now in stable condition but staying overnight in the ICU. He has a broken leg and pelvis.

Broken Arrow Public Schools released this statement Thursday:

“The injured student remains in stable condition in the hospital. His coaches, teammates and many others are recuperating from the shock of yesterday’s accident, but there is a great deal of relief in knowing he is recovering. The district is providing support to the students and staff members who have been affected by the event, and any opportunities for the community to lend their support to the family will be shared using district communication tools.”
