Steven Parker Commits To The Sooners

Posted: Updated:
Jenks safety Steven Parker says he's going to play for the Sooners.  "This has been a crazy journey. It's finally here." said Parker,"It's definitely been tough on me and my family. It's been very stressful. I'm going to play my college football at the University of Oklahoma."

He is considered the top recruit in Oklahoma and is the sixth best safety in the country according to Rivals.com.  He said OU was the school that recruited him the best.  "I just thought it was the school that best fit me." Steven said, "All the schools were great.  I just thought that they stayed with me through the process."

It's the third straight year Bob Stoops and Oklahoma have been able to win the recruiting battle for the top high school player in the state.  But it wasn't easy.  Parker said he came close to committing to Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.  He was really high on the Aggies.

"That was the team that competed with OU the entire process."  Parker also said he told A&M coach Kevin Sumlin in his office that he thought Texas A&M was the school he'd end up attending.  "After my visit there I told my parents, Mom and Dad I think I want to go to A&M.  Turns out the DB coach left and it just didn't fit what I wanted basically."

Parker will make it official Wednesday morning on National Signing Day.
