City of Tulsa Slashes Health Benefits for 272 Retirees

Posted: Updated:

The City of Tulsa will no longer pay part of the health premiums for retirees who are not yet eligible for Medicare.

The change was announced to employees in a letter and will go into effect July 1, city officials said.

The city expects to save about $600,000.

The change affects 272 non-sworn employees who retired before age 65, the age in which they can enroll in Medicare.

Until they are eligible for Medicare, those retirees can opt to pay the full premium of their current plan, enroll in the new Federal Marketplace plans or seek other private insurance.
