Bristow Woman Stabbed to Death, Brother in Critical Condition

Posted: Updated:

A woman is dead after she and her brother were stabbed in Bristow.

According to a release by Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the crime occurred in the woman's home on the 500 block of E. Washington in Bristow. Investigators were called there around 6:30 p.m. Friday night.

The victims were identified as Betty Diane Evans, 51, and Robert Evans, age unknown, who is reported to be in critical condition at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa. Betty Evans died at a local hospital.

Investigators worked overnight to process the scene for evidence. OSBI have identified Vernon Stanbrough as the primary suspect. He was booked into Creek County Jail for 1st degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

The motive has not been determined by authorities, although the victims and Stanbrough are all from Bristow. A search of the Oklahoma State Courts Network webpage showed that Stanbrough had given the location of the stabbing as his home address in 1999.

Bristow area law enforcement officials are very familiar with Stanbrough. He has a history of charges for violent crimes beginning in 2002 including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon in addition to possession and intent to distribute both drugs and obscene material.
