Oklahoma City -

State troopers would get nearly a 20 percent raise under a bill being considered by state lawmakers.

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety voted 8-1 Monday to approve HB 3098.

The bill calls for an 18.5 percent raise for troopers and a 13 percent raise for dispatchers.

Rep. Mike Jackson (R-Enid) authored the legislation and says the raises are needed in order to recruit and retain troopers.

The raises would cost the state about $9.8 million a year.
