Investigation Ongoing for Malnourished Horses Near Mannford

Posted: Updated:

Creek County Sheriff's were contacted on Feb. 24 about a group of horses that appeared to be malnourished and in poor health near Mannford on West 61st Street.

According to a release from the Creek County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived on scene to investigate and found food and water on site but also noticed malnourished horses, one of which suffered from a large laceration.

The report states that deputies conducted a three-day investigation on the horse owner, witnesses and the owner's veterinarian to see if the horses were being cared for properly.

Deputies reportedly found that the owner had failed to schedule a veterinarian to respond to the situation within a reasonable time frame.

After a sergeant brought a veterinarian to the scene, that sergeant got an order from the District Court and reportedly seized 10 horses from the property, which were transported to be evaluated and cared for.

The Creek County Sheriff's Office is still investigating. When the investigation is concluded, authorities will decide whether to file charges against the horse owner.
