Burn Ban Extended for Another Week in Tulsa

Posted: Updated:

A burn ban has been extended in Tulsa County this week.

Tulsa County Commissioners met Monday and decided to extend the ban for another week. It was first adopted February 24.

Mike Willis with the Board of Commissioners told KTUL that the recent snow storm over the weekend didn't provide enough moisture to cancel the ban. It is expected to evaporate quickly rather than saturate the ground.

Willis added that if another system moves into the area bringing moisture the commissioners will meet to discuss lifting the ban. Otherwise they will meet again next week.

The burn ban allows exceptions for outdoor grilling with electric or gas grills with the stipulation that all outdoor grilling must be done over gravel, concrete, or another non-flammable surface. In addition, all operating grills should be attended by an adult who has direct access to a water source.

Violating a burn ban is punishable by up to a year in jail and $500 in fines.
