66ers Winning Streak Snapped By Erie

Posted: Updated:

The Tulsa 66ers fell to the Erie BayHawks, 107-103, snapping a six-game winning streak on Wednesday in a matinee game at the SpiritBank Event Center.

Six Tulsa players scored 11 or more points as Mario Little led the 66ers in scoring with 18 points, two rebounds and two steals. Mustafa Shakur tallied 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals.

Reggie Williams collected 14 points, six rebounds and four assists and Jon Kreft scored a career-high 14 points with six boards. Isaiah Wilkerson and Scoop Jardine each scored 11 points off the bench and Xavier Alexander put together eight points a career-best 18 rebounds.

Tulsa distributed 24 assists and outrebounded Erie 48-38.

The 66ers (18-21) shot 56.0 percent from the field in the first half behind seven assists from Shakur and six from Jardine to take a 65-55 lead to halftime. The BayHawks (13-26) outscored Tulsa 30-17 in the third quarter to lead 85-82 heading into the final frame.

Erie stretched its lead to six by opening the fourth with a 5-2 run, but Tulsa clawed its way back to tie the game at 93 midway through the quarter. Tulsa built a three-point lead before the BayHawks equalized the game at 101-101 with just under four minutes to play.

The 66ers took a 103-102 lead on a second-chance layup by Little with 1:38 on the clock but Erie would re-take the lead with a pair of made free throws from Lewis Jackson at the 51 second mark. The BayHawks held on in the final seconds to hand Tulsa its first loss since Feb. 11.

The BayHawks were led by Scott Suggs with 26 points.

“We were playing unselfish in the first half, sharing the ball and playing together,” said 66ers Head Coach Darko Rajakovic. “In the second half, we were not moving the ball and not playing team basketball. We need to play 48 minutes of a lot of effort and energy in order to win games. That’s what stopped us in the second half. We’ve been playing good lately but need to continue to work hard. We have talented guys and hard-working habits when we compete the right way for 48 minutes. We need to learn our lessons from this game and get back on the right course."

Tulsa is back in action on Saturday night when it hosts the Texas Legends at 7 p.m.
