Posted: Updated:

A back burn has been set up to stop the spread of a grass fire burning in the northern area of Washington County.

A spokesperson for the Washington County Emergency Management Office told KTUL that the fire is mostly contained.

Multiple fire departments have been on scene since Thursday afternoon just west of Copan. Reports of rekindling and flare-ups have continued through Friday.

Initial reports state that an approximate 1,000 acres have burned. The grass fire spans the area between Bar-Dew Lake and Copan Lake.

Crews from the Copan, Dewey, Washington County and Airport Road Fire Departments remain on scene battling the fire.
