Broken Arrow Cat Rescuer Found Dead

Posted: Updated:

A well-respected Broken Arrow woman who had run a cat adoption center since the 1980's was found dead recently.

Authorities believe Merlene Stuerzer had been dead for awhile.

The Humane Society took the cats that were left at her residence. Some of the cats that Stuerzer had taken care of had passed away due to starvation after Stuerzer's death.

Evan Fadem, the manager of the Humane Society of Tulsa, said that the cats that were recovered will be up for adoption soon.

Fadem also said that Stuerzer often took care of older cats, those that no one else wanted to adopt.

Those who want to adopt one of the approximately 31 cats found can do so soon at the Humane Society's adoption center at 60th and Sheridan. Donations such as cat litter, cat food and collars would also be appreciated.
