Ochelata Woman Dies in Washington County Wreck

An Ochelata woman died following a traffic accident near Highway 75 and County Road 2900 in Washington County according to an OHP press release.

46-year-old Sandra K. Hammock was driving a 2008 Dodge Charger when she attempted to cross the northbound lanes of the highway from a private drive.

Her vehicle was struck in the driver's side door by an oncoming 2011 Dodge Caliber driven by 70-year-old Ruth M. Stepien from Olathe, Kan.

Hammock was pinned in her vehicle for 20 minutes before she was freed by Ramona and Ochelata Fire Departments.

She was transported to Saint John Medical Center in Tulsa where she died from head, leg and internal trunk injuries. Her passenger, Sarah c. Gann, 21, was transported to St. John in stable condition with head and arm injuries.

Stepien suffered a leg injury and was also admitted at St. John in fair condition.

All involved were wearing seatbelts.
