Colorful Dog Houses Donated To Promote Better Conditions for Canines

Posted: Updated:

On Saturday, the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine donated 10 doghouses creatively decorated by vet students to UnchainOK.

Last Sunday, veterinary students participated in teams in a timed decorating competition in Stillwater and volunteers picked up the dog houses today and brought them back to Tulsa.

The designs are colorful and creative and feature a variety of themes including rescue dogs, paw prints and cowboys.

Purina provided dog house kits and paint was provided by Spectrum Paints and Sherwin Williams for vet students to decorate the assembled houses. Help was also provided by Stillwater Printing, said UnchainOK's Director Patti Cook.

Unchain Oklahoma is a non-profit organization that works to help dog owners provide more humane living conditions for their canines.

They encourage owners to integrate dogs into their family by not chaining them in their yard. As part of that effort, they provide fencing and dog houses free of charge.

According to their website, dogs that are not used to socializing with humans because they are kept isolated are more likely to bite.

Cook is unsure whether they will distribute the dog houses as they would regular dog houses or whether they will auction them off to raise funds to purchase more dog houses.
