71-Year-Old Coweta Bus Driver Suspected of Lewd Acts with Child

Posted: Updated:

A 71-year-old Coweta school bus driver was arrested Friday for alleged lewd acts with a child after an investigation into multiple tips that were received by separate agencies.

The Coweta Police Department received a tip from a parent, who reported that the suspect was sending harassing text messages to their daughter. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation reports that around the same time as the parent's tip to CPD, the Department of Human Services received a tip regarding an unlicensed daycare in Coweta.

The alleged unlicensed daycare was also the residence of the suspect, Eugene Burchett, 71. That residence was located on the 15500 block of South 291st Street East Avenue.

The OSBI was brought in by Coweta PD for assistance in the texting case.

After being interviewed Friday, Burchett was arrested on complaints of two counts of lewd molestation. He is being held in Wagoner County Jail.

The OSBI believes the suspect could have targeted more children.
