Search Continues in Haskell County for Escaped Inmate

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers and Keota Police are continuing to search for an escaped inmate in Haskell County.

Edward Branch escaped the jail in Stigler Tuesday. His escape forced Stigler Public Schools to issue lockdowns across the district.

Keota Mayor Doye Dunkin said two police officers reportedly spotted inmate Edward Branch by the railroad tracks Wednesday night. Dunkin told KTUL he heard gunfire.

OHP confirms that the search continued overnight.

Dunkin said Branch has family in Keota. The town is about a dozen miles away from Stigler.

"He has an aunt and a grandma that live here, I think. That's one of the reasons he was in jail, I think," Dunkin said.

Branch has escaped correctional facilities twice before. That includes McIntosh and Craig Counties.

He faces charges like assault and battery on an officer and robbery by force.

Channel 8 learned authorities took Branch's mother, Sara Branch, to jail Wednesday, accused of obstruction and harboring a fugitive.

Branch is described as being a white male with light brown hair and hazel eyes. He is five feet five inches in height and 150 pounds.

Officials added that he has neck tattoos and a birthmark on the right side of his forehead. Branch is considered to be dangerous.
