Tulsa's Job Market Offers Opportunity

Posted: Updated:

If you're out of work or unhappy with your current job, now is the time to take action. Unemployment is down to 5.3% in the Tulsa area. Tulsa is now adding about 5,000 jobs a month.

We've all seen the big construction projects that are pouring cement all over Tulsa. But the job market is now a lot more than road work, that has hefty backing from Uncle Sam. The job boom is now much bigger and it's affecting a variety of fields.

Lisa Kepford, of Key Personnel, say there's a lot of opportunity for those who are looking for a job.

"We are really struggling to keep up with the demand," Kepford said.

She says the trend has been evident for the last six months and they expect it to continue for some time into the future.

From the energy sector to IT work and office staffing there are a lot of jobs available.

The Tulsa Metro Chamber of Commerce is excited about 2014. They already announced a couple of new projects that will bring a couple thousand paychecks to this area. Justin McLaughlin is the Senior Vice President for Economic Development.

He said they're seeing really good activity from local companies that want to expand and businesses that want to relocate here. McLaughlin said the improvements to downtown, such as Guthrie Green, are making it easier to sell Tulsa to employers of all kinds.
