Flash Mob Protestors Hope to Save Arts in Tulsa

Posted: Updated:

Members of Tulsa Project Theatre held flash mob dance protests in the streets today for the purpose of fighting proposed budget cuts for arts in Tulsa.

The protests began at 3:30 p.m. at the Starbucks in Utica Square. Members of the Tulsa Project Theatre wanted to show objection to the closing of Heller and Clark Theatres and the elimination of six positions at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.

Melanie Fry was a part of the flash mob and she wants to save arts in Tulsa.

"The mayor is getting rid of people who helped build, design and have the vision to create Guthrie Green," Fry said.

"Everybody goes after arts and education when they try to balance the budget. This is not the time to do that," she added.

The protestors moved to Cherry Street for their next flash mob, where they temporarily caused traffic delays as they danced in the middle of the street in front of Full Moon Cafe.

The dancing protestors also temporarily shut down the street on Brookside and finished their display at Guthrie Green.
