A lawsuit against a Tulsa man facing manslaughter charges for a boating accident on Grand Lake was settled in April.

Prosecutors allege John Stuart Deselms was operating a boat under the influence when it crashed into another boat in May 2013. The crash killed University of Arkansas students Trey Varner and Rachel Swetnam.

Court documents state that families for Varner and Swetnam filed the lawsuit against Deselms family in January. Its amount was not disclosed at this time.

Deselms still faces two first degree manslaughter charges for the fatal accident. His next appearance is scheduled for July.

KTUL previously reported that officers described in their investigation that Deselms told them that he had 10 beers, a tequila shot and an antidepressant before the deadly collision.
