Tulsa Man Booked after Reportedly Setting Fire to Ladies Room

Posted: Updated:

A Tulsa man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he reportedly set fire to a soap dispenser in a women's restroom.

The incident occurred at Maveric Mini-Mart at 6401 North Peoria around 3 a.m. Tulsa County deputies were called to the scene by the Turley Fire Department.

The cashier reported seeing smoke come out of the ladies restroom. When fire crews arrived, they found the woman's restroom on fire, which was extinguished quickly. The store cashier told deputies that the only man who had been present in the store at that point in the morning was Billy Hamblin, 34.

Security footage allegedly showed Hamblin leaving the ladies room at approximately 3 a.m. The deputy reported Hamblin left the store at 3:05 a.m. and smoke became visible at 3:10 a.m.

A State fire marshall examined the damage and declared it arson. The fire marshall stated the suspect lit the soap dispenser on fire by an unknown means. The fire then spread to the wall.

Deputies were informed that Hamblin returned to the store near 6:30 a.m. and he was arrested shortly afterward.

Hamblin was booked on a complaint of first-degree arson and is being held on $20,000 bond.
