Tulsa Considers New Rules for Secondhand Stores

Posted: Updated:

Tulsa City Councilors are considering adopting new regulations for secondhand stores.

The council will discuss the ordinance at their meeting tonight.

If approved, secondhand stores would be required to keep records on transactions similar to the regulations imposed on pawn shops.

The store owner would keep a record of the item and the person who sold it. People without an ID could not sell their items.

The ordinance does include exemptions from recording keeping for office furniture, pianos, books, clothing, organs, coins, motor vehicles, costume jewelry, cardiovascular and strength training or conditioning equipment designed primarily for indoor use, and secondhand sports equipment that is not permanently labeled with a serial number.
