Sand Springs Man Dies in Overnight Wreck

A 38-year-old man from Sand Springs was killed following an one-vehicle accident overnight in Mayes County.

The accident occurred at 3:31 a.m. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports the vehicle left the roadway on State Highway 20 for an unknown reason and struck a tree.

The driver was reportedly pinned for 17 minutes and was freed by the Spavinaw Fire Department. Samuel Hurtubis was pronounced dead at the Mayes County Medical Center from head, trunk and leg injuries.

OHP reports there was fog in the air at the time of the wreck.

The cause of the accident and condition of the driver are still being investigated.
