PETA Members Encourage Tulsans to "Try Vegan"

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are trying to get Tulsans to eat vegan.

Today from noon-1 p.m. at 5th and Boston, PETA members will be handing out meat-free barbecue sandwiches to encourage people in Tulsa to eat vegan. This is in conjunction with the "Try Vegan" billboards, which are now present in Tulsa, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C.

The Tulsa billboard is located at East 71st Street near the intersection of South Lewis Avenue.

PETA reports that each vegan saves the lives of more than 100 animals every year. PETA members will be holding a sign showing a pig that reads "You can live without those ribs. I can't. Try vegan."

PETA members want to see a stop to the raising and killing of animals for food.

"We want to make it fun and easy for people to try tasty vegan foods, and we want to help people remember that the animals in the freezer case were once someone, not something," PETA Special Projects Manager Alicia Woempner said. "Eating good food, being healthy, and protecting animals are things everyone can get behind."
