Pretty Water to Construct Storm Shelter Partially in Light of Moore Tornado

Posted: Updated:

Pretty Water is a small community and its school district covers nine square miles near Sapulpa. The school district is prioritizing tornado safety for students after the Moore tornadoes last year.

A $600,000 bond issue (that had failed before) was passed in February that will result in a 700-person storm shelter being built in Pretty Water. The shelter is for students and community members when severe weather threatens.

Its size is 2,700 square feet. Construction will begin in July and be done by the holidays.

"I'll feel safer whenever it gets put in, because I'll have somewhere to go whenever a tornado comes," said sixth grader Davis Dotson.
