Tulsa Judge Delays Trial for Man Accused of Killing Mother

Posted: Updated:

A jury trial process for a Tulsa man accused of killing his mother at her south Tulsa home has been delayed until September.

Henry Laird returned to a Tulsa County courtroom Wednesday morning for continued jury selection. He faces a first degree murder charge for reportedly beating his mother, Linda Laird, to death with a shotgun in 2013.

KTUL has learned that the Tulsa judge presiding over the case delayed the trial until September citing Laird's constitutional rights. He has previously pleaded not guilty but that his attorney has recommended a plea deal in the case.

Both sides in the case will return for a separate hearing in June to discuss additional information. Laird will remain in custody at the Tulsa County Jail.

KTUL reported in 2013 that family members found his mother dead on the floor at the base of a staircase. Laird and was taken into custody with Josiah Sklar blocks from the where the incident took place.
