Mary Anne’s Chocolate Mousse Tarts

Posted: Updated:

The month of May is rich in graduation parties, bridal and baby showers, picnics and family get-togethers. Why not serve your guests a dessert that will be the hit of your celebration!

1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows

1 (7 ounce) milk or dark chocolate candy bar

1/2 cup milk, minus 1 Tablespoon (optional)

1 Tablespoon chocolate or orange liqueur, optional

Pinch cinnamon

2 cups heavy whipping cream

3 Tablespoons powdered sugar

2 (6-count) packages Keebler Mini Graham Cracker Crust tart shells

Prepared whipped cream, for topping

Chocolate candy bar shavings, for topping, optional

Chocolate sprinkles, for topping, optional

Mini chocolate chips, for topping, optional

  • In a medium saucepan, heat marshmallows, chocolate candy, milk, liqueur, if using, and cinnamon over low heat until marshmallows and chocolate are melted, stirring constantly. Cool mixture completely.
  • Beat heavy cream and powdered sugar in a large ice cold bowl with ice cold beaters until stiff peaks form. (Note: I put bowl and beaters in freezer for about 30 minutes before I whip the heavy whipping cream. It whips up in no time). Gently fold cooled chocolate in whipped cream until well mixed. Spoon into mini graham cracker tart shells or baked pie shell. Refrigerate until set, about 3 hours. . Serve with huge dollops of whipped cream and decorate with candy bar shavings, sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, if desired. Serves 8-12, depending on how full you fill the tarts.
Note: You could make this into a pie by spooning it into a baked 9-inch graham cracker crust; this recipe makes one 9-inch pie.

Note: You can make this the night before and place in the freezer; be sure to let it sit out for 20 minutes before serving.

Note: If you want you can spoon into dessert cups or even wine glasses and forget the tart or pie shells.

Graham Cracker Crust:

1 1/2 cups finely ground graham cracker crumbs, (One section of graham crackers)

1/3 cup granulated white sugar 6 Tablespoons butter, melted

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional

  • Lightly spray a 9-inch pie plate with non-vegetable cooking spray. Set aside. Mix graham cracker crumbs, sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon, if using, until well blended. Press mixture into a 9-inch pie plate. I use Saran Wrap to press it in. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 7 minutes. Cool.
