Residents Escape Sunday Morning Apartment Fire

Posted: Updated:

Residents at the Landing Apartments escaped a fire early this morning.

Shana Jones and Shanonte Webster, 7, were panicked and unsure of what to do when they saw heavy smoke outside their front door.

Jones said she was alerted to the fire by a neighbor who was screaming "fire." Initially the neighbor had yelled "help," but Jones thought he was just messing around.

Because they did not want to venture out through the smoke outside the front door, the roommate of Jones kicked the window out of the apartment.

Jones dropped the 7-year-old out of the window to four people who were helping outside. Jones was able to escape with a ladder.
