OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A state senator from Tulsa is withdrawing from the Tulsa County district attorney's race, citing the Legislature's passage this session of a resolution authorizing pay hikes for district attorneys.

Republican Sen. Brian Crain did not vote on the measure, but said Tuesday the plain reading of the Oklahoma Constitution precludes him from running since he is in the middle of his four-year Senate term.

The Constitution prohibits legislators from taking a job that was created or for which the salary was increased "during the term for which he was elected."

The Legislature last week passed a bill authorizing pay hikes for district attorneys and judges.

Crain's name will remain on the primary ballot since the formal deadline has passed for candidates to withdraw.
