Relief efforts continue for residents of an Ottawa County community hit by an EF-2 tornado in April.
A group of Quapaw residents have established a citizen's relief fund to help assist the town during the reconstruction phase. It's been a month now since the tornado struck the town destroying several buildings and killing a man from Baxter Springs.
Quapaw Strong has been taking donations to help offset expenses for residents rebuilding. One way they have done so is by selling t-shirts with the phrase "Quapaw Strong" at area events and festivals.
Fundraisers with the committee have collected more than $16,000 to continue their relief efforts. $2,000 of the funds were donated by the Quapaw High School senior class.
QHS Principal Terry Tyree told KTUL that students wanted to give the money to Quapaw because it was the community that helped them raise the funds.
