SWAT, Sand Springs Police Help End Standoff

The Sand Springs Police Department and Southwest Area Tactical Team (SWAT) responded to a standoff situation Saturday night at 8 p.m. involving a man making suicidal statements and threatening his family.

The incident occurred on the 600 block of West 36th Street in Sand Springs.

The adult male reportedly had a weapon and threatened to harm himself and his family. Officers arrived and tried to negotiate with the subject, but he reportedly barricaded himself in a bedroom.

Nearby homes were evacuated and the SWAT arrived and made entry into the subject's location, tasering him and taking him into custody.

The subject was sent to a local hospital for a mental evaluation at approximately 11 p.m.
