Muskogee Man Shot While Driving in His Neighborhood

MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma -

A Muskogee man was shot in the back of the head while leaving his house this morning.

Police say 50-year-old Randy Smith was driving on his street when someone fired several rounds into his car. Smith called 911 after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a parked car.

"He had contact prior to leaving the residence with a male who was walking by. His claim to us was that individual had asked for a cigarette told him he didn't have on he said that individual walked off," said Muskogee Police Spokesman Michael Mahan.

Police are unsure if the man is a suspect or witness and are asking anyone with information to contact the police department at 918-683-8000 or Muskogee Crime Stoppers at 918-682-COPS.

Neighbor Merri Davila heard the gun shots.

"My windows were open and it's right next door. It’s scary really scary because it's right here real close to home," Davila said.

"You know I am my windows will be shut and locked cause you never know.”
