Tulsa Tough Prepares For Take Off, Three Days of Cycling

Posted: Updated:

Tulsa is preparing for the ninth annual St. Francis Tulsa Tough.

The entire cycling community is joining in to make the event a success.

"It makes it extremely busy. It's three full days of 15 hour days. But we wouldn't do it if we did not enjoy it," said Chris Fondren, service manager at Lee's Bicycle Shop.

Fondren and Lee's are already oiling the wheels of Tulsa Tough. The bike shop and store expects to sell and service bikes throughout the weekend.

The event draws cyclists from all over the nation. Last year there were about 37-hundred racers and riders. This year organizers expect to possibly attract even more. The goal is to showcase Tulsa, from downtown to River Parks and to encourage health and wellness.

"Just be active, you know. Get out and move your body. What we find is, when people start doing that, other things fall into place. They start eating better, sleeping better and every area of their life becomes improved," said Malcolm McCollam, executive director of St. Francis Tulsa Tough.

Organizers are expecting more spectators for the pro and amateur races.
