Gavin Glanz became the third Oral Roberts University baseball player to hear his named called in the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft as he was selected in the 23rd round by the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.
A weekend starter in 2014, Glanz’ college career culminated with his selection in the draft by his hometown team. The outgoing senior is a native of Arvada, Colo., and attended high school just 20 miles from Coors Field.
“It’s a childhood dream to be player for the Rockies organization, and I am extremely excited to be continuing my career with my hometown team,” said Glanz following his selection. “It’s been a blessing to be a part of a historic program like ORU, and want to thank the coaches for the opportunity and the ORU and Tulsa communities for their support the last two years.”
Glanz finished his senior season at ORU with a 3-5 record in 14 starts and a 3.27 earned run average. Opponents only hit .258 this season against Glanz, while striking out 50 times.
On Friday, Jose Trevino was selected by the Texas Rangers in the sixth round, and Jordan Romano was picked in the 10th round by his hometown team Toronto. It was the first time since 2009 three ORU players were taken in the top 23 rounds of the draft.
