A McAlester man facing first degree manslaughter charges made his first court appearance Monday afternoon in Pittsburg County.

Prosecutors filed charges against Ryan Shumway June 4 at the Pittsburg County courthouse. He is accused of driving a boat on Lake Eufaula and crashing it into two others killing 55-year-old Gary McIninch.

Both sides in Shumway's case met in the courtroom Monday for his initial appearance after being charged with first degree manslaughter and failure to give a required report of accident, according to court records. He plead not guilty to the charges and was released out of the jail on $2,500 bond.

Troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol state two boats were anchored together when Shumway's boat hit the bow going 30 miles per hour. The impact caused the boat to go airborne and land on the other two.

Previous reports from KTUL state that a woman and two children were on the boat with Shumway prior to the crash. He fled the scene shortly after.

Rescue crews recovered McIninch's body two days after the accident.
