Derek Fisher Introduced As Knicks Head Coach

Posted: Updated:
Derek Fisher won five NBA championships with Phil Jackson as his head coach.  The two will pair up again, trying to bring a title to the Big Apple.

Reports surfaced on Monday that Fisher, who has played the past three seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, had agreed in principle to become the 26th head coach of the New York Knicks.  Jackson took over as the Knicks President back in March.

On Tuesday, those reports turned out to be true.  The two sides agreed on a contract that pays Fisher $25 million over five seasons.

Fisher has played in a NBA-record 259 playoff games, and has won 161 postseason games.  He will join Jason Kidd as former players who left the court and went directly to the coaches' chair.  Kidd took the Brooklyn Nets to the NBA Playoffs this season, his first as head coach.
