Officers in Muskogee placed a 21-year-old man under arrest over the weekend in connection with a fatal shooting at an apartment complex.

Deontee Newton was taken into custody Sunday afternoon by agents with the F.B.I. Violent Crimes Task Force and the Muskogee Police Department. This was after a man, identified as Alexander Ethan Garfield, was discovered dead from a gunshot wound at the Pine Apartments in Muskogee.

"We have a preliminary identification of the victim, but are not releasing his name at this time pending a positive identification and notification of next of kin," Cpl. Mike Mahan stated. "The victim suffered from multiple gun-shot wounds and has been taken to the Medical Examiner Office in Tulsa, OK."

Records at the Oklahoma Department of Corrections indicate that Newton was previously convicted for a firearms sentence. He also was charged with murder in 2010 for an incident that also took place in Muskogee County.
