Search Crews Recover Body After Drowning Near Lake Bixhoma

Posted: Updated:

The body of a 24-year-old male was recovered early Monday morning from a lake near Bixby.

Bixby police confirm he is Jacob "Jake" Mefford.

Officials with the Wagoner County Emergency Management and Bixby Police were notified around 8 p.m. Sunday about the incident. They were told that the male was swimming in Lake Bixhoma with about four or five people and never surfaced.

Search crews began operations that lasted through the evening into the early morning hours. Bixby Police and Bixby Fire Department were at the scene assisting in the search.

Rescue crews found him around 2:30 a.m.

"We're looking at the possibility that alcohol may have played a part at least in the initial activities that went on out there," said Det. Sgt. Andrew Choate with Bixby Police.
