Governor Mary Fallin Addresses Education, Economic Growth During State of State

Posted: Updated:

State leaders and representatives gathered Tuesday in downtown Tulsa for Governor Mary Fallin's State of the State address.

Governor Fallin was joined by various Oklahoma dignitaries during her speech at the Cox Business Center. The event began at noon and was her second address this year.

"Fallin will present an update on Oklahoma’s state of affairs to the Tulsa regional business community, including an overview of the 2014 legislative session, her current priorities and the top issues in Oklahoma," the announcement from the Tulsa Regional Chamber describes.

During her speech, Fallin stated she hopes to prioritize education in Oklahoma and growing the economy. She also wants to tackle the issue of prescription drug addiction.

Previous reports from KTUL state that after this afternoon's event Fallin will have given a total five State of the State addresses. As previously mentioned, in February she discussed a $50 million dollar increase for education and reducing money for state agencies by five percent.

"As you know our general revenue fund is lower this year than estimated," Fallin said earlier this year. "We're on a tight budget, as it should be. That's why I'm proposing a 50 million dollar increase to help our students in K-12."
