Dr. Electrician Warns of the Life-Threatening Dangers of Electrical Problems

Analysis of fire department reports shows that electrical problems cause huge percentage of fires, reveals Dr. Electrician.

Sydney, NSW, Australia – July 1, 2014 /MarketersMedia/ –

A look at news reports for Sydney over the last year makes it apparent just how dangerous electrical problems can be. Just a few months ago, 200 office workers had to be evacuated from a massive blaze that was started by faulty electrical equipment. NSW Fire & Rescue’s activity sheet shows even more electrical fires and smoke incidents. On June 25th an electrical fire forced the evacuation of 100 people from a services club, and on June 27th, an electrical fault caused smoke at a day care center. Many other electrical fires and smoke incidents have also been reported by the fire department.

“This shows just how important it is to have electrical problems fixed immediately,” said Mat Dunn of Dr. Electrician, a 24 hour emergency electrician in Sydney (http://24houremergencyelectriciansydney.com.au). “It’s not just a matter of convenience. It’s a matter of life and death.”

Many people mistakenly think that electrical problems are minor when they actually aren’t. A hot electrical outlet, for example, is often on its way to igniting flammable materials inside the wall. Even before fire breaks out, the heat can release lead from wire insulation or other toxic gases. Another sign of serious problems is circuit breakers that trip under the slightest strain.

“Breakers that trip when there really isn’t a heavy load being placed on the circuit indicate shorts, failing wiring, and other such problems,” Dunn explained. “These conditions can easily cause heat buildup that can start a fire. Even worse, certain electrical problems can still cause fire even if the breaker turns itself off. That’s because a short may be allowing electricity to bypass the safety mechanism and keep wires ‘hot’ – both electrically and literally.” Of course, normal circuit trips aren’t a problem. It’s when the circuit starts to trip even under loads that it once could handle that trouble should be suspected.

In many cases, turning off the power to an entire house or building isn’t a feasible solution to stopping breaker-related problems. Nobody wants all of the food in the refrigerator to go bad while waiting for a professional to come, and closing an entire building is also a last-resort option. The best bet is to call for an after hours electrician (http://24houremergencyelectriciansydney.com.au/after-hours-electrician) instead. This will allow the home or building to be made safe soon enough to avoid long periods of downtime.

“Even when someone has called for an emergency electrician, the power should be shut off to the fullest extent possible to prevent continued overheating of the faulty circuit or outlet,” Dunn noted. “The benefit of the emergency electrician, in that case, is in the ability to get everything running again before the lack of power can cause problems like spoiled food or disrupted business.”
