8-Year-Old Broken Arrow Boy Wins Contest, Gets to Visit White House

Ranger Lemaster was one of 1,500 to enter Michelle Obama's Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.

The contest was for ages 8-12, and asked for a healthy, affordable recipe.

A winner from each state was chosen for an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to meet Michelle Obama.

Winners are chosen by a panel of judges that include President Barack Obama's personal White House chef, Sam Kansas, celebrity chefs and representatives from several other well-known organizations.

Each winner, accompanied by a parent, will spend two days in Washington D.C..

The trip includes a tour of the White House, a private tour of Julia Child's kitchen exhibit in the Smithsonian and the Kids' State Dinner in the White House.

"This was just too good to be true," Ashley Lemaster said. "The idea of going to the White House and getting to go to Washington D.C. with my child; I just couldn't not enter when I saw that was the prize."

The duo made a smoky southwestern vegetable dip.

"I felt like a chips and dip would be really simple, really healthy and really good," Ranger Lemaster said. "So, that was the first thing that came to my mind. I thought there was about a 55 percent chance we were going to win."
