(PRWEB) July 09, 2014

The 2014 World Cup is down to the final three games. Yesterday, Germany defeated the host nation Brazil, 7-1, in one of most lopsided matches in World Cup history. The victory propelled the German team to the championship, which is to be played on Sunday, July 13, while the loss sends Brazil to the third place match on Saturday, July 12. Who competes against these teams this weekend will be determined later today when the Netherlands take on Argentina.

Coming into the 2014 World Cup, the four teams that had a chance to compete for the World Cup title were all ranked in the top 15, with Germany, Brazil and Argentina ranked in the top five. The Netherlands shouldnt be fazed by that fact as they competed in the 2010 World Cup finals and despite picking up the loss to Spain in that game, have learned from their failures and have been one of the most impressive teams of this World Cup.

In their opening game, Netherlands dismantled the defending champion Spaniards 5-1 and never looked back after. They followed up that victory with a defeat of Australia and Chile to win Group B with a +7 goal differential. In the elimination games, they were pushed to the limit by Mexico and Costa Rica, and even needed penalty kicks to get back the latter. The Dutch team showed that they have no fear when it comes to roster moves, as head coach Louis van Gaal made a goalkeeper switch in the 120th minute against Costa Rica, bringing in the taller Tim Krul, replacing Jasper Cillessen. The switch worked and the team advanced to the semifinals.

When fans of football thinks of Argentina, the first player that comes to mind is one of the best athletes in the sport, Lionel Messi. Messi has struck the back of the net four times this tournament, tying him for the third highest total and putting him in contention for the Golden Boot. Messi changes the way coaches manage their defense and has been known to fight through the stringiest of defenses to get his team in position to score.

The Netherlands and Argentina will play at Arena de São Paulo with Argentina hoping to represent South America in the finals. The host nation will next compete against the loser of this game in the capital city of Brasilia, while the winner will take on Germany to determine the new World Cup Champions from Estádio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro.
