Declaration of Independence Period Found

Tom Lingenfelter of Doylestown, PA., recently discovered an anastatic copy of the Original Declaration of Independence, produced by a duplicating process that created the only true copy of the Original Declaration before it deteriorated to its present condition.

A scholar says that the Declaration of Independence contains a significant error namely a period that appears in the transcript of the Declaration issued by the National Archives, immediately following the phrase life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. She maintains there should not be a period, which she insists is not on the badly faded parchment original.

This period, she argues, makes a difference which she calls a routine but serious misunderstanding of the Declaration of Independence. The logic, according to Dr. Danielle Allen of Princeton, of the sentence without the period, moves from the value of individual rights to the importance of government as a tool for protecting those rights.

Lingenfelter said Dr. Allen will have to pursue her argument without her significant error to bolster her position. There is a Period. PERIOD.
