New HD video platform delivers exclusive Steelers content to laptops, desktops, tablets

PITTSBURGH, July 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially launched the Steelers DeskSite, a new HD video product that proactively delivers hours upon hours of team-produced content to fans – for free.

Essentially a DVR for the Internet, the Steelers DeskSite serves as a personalized video recorder and content library for Steelers HD video. This specialized "Big Screen" app offers new technology specifically designed for laptops, desktops and tablets, instead of smartphones, to support fans' growing consumption of online video.

To provide this new fan experience, the Steelers have partnered with DeskSite, a digital media company based in Irvine, Calif.

"The Steelers DeskSite represents a well-balanced combination of new technology and 'must-see' video," said Richard Gillam, CEO of DeskSite. "We're thrilled to introduce the Pittsburgh Steelers as our 20th NFL team partner."

The app automatically downloads and stores videos directly to users' devices, allowing fans to view content without having to be connected to the Internet. Playback is instantaneous, with none of the buffering, freezing or dropping associated with streaming video. Options include audiovisual alerts, dramatically reducing the delay between a video's initial release and fan access.

In addition to serving as a premium HD video delivery platform and programmable DVR, the Steelers DeskSite operates as a central hub for aggregated access to Steelers digital content, including Steelers.com, and the team's official Facebook and Twitter posts.

"The Steelers DeskSite is one of the most comprehensive digital touchpoints we have available for our fans," said Ryan Huzjak, Director of Corporate Partnerships and Sales at the Steelers. "We look forward to the opportunity to provide more content to Steelers Nation through this platform."

Video programming includes full-length broadcast television shows, interviews with players and coaches, postgame recaps, in-depth scouting combine and draft coverage, breaking news and more.
