FCA Director Sues Sports Illustrated Over OSU Series

Posted: Updated:

A Fellowship of Christian Athletes director is suing Sports Illustrated over the magazine’s special report on Oklahoma State football.

John Talley filed the suit Thursday in Payne County District Court.

Talley alleges the magazine knowingly published false statements in the September 2013 series on OSU entitled “The Dirty Game.”

The suit claims Sports Illustrated painted Talley “as an overzealous ‘booster’ who made systematic improper financial contributions to OSU’s football players.”

In part of the series, a former player interviewed by Sports Illustrated named Talley as someone who paid him between $1,500 and $2,000 every two weeks to work on his ranch.

Talley says according to OSU records he never paid any student more than $600.

According to the lawsuit, Talley is suing for an amount more than $10,000 to be determined in trial.
