Greenwood District Makes Plans To Keep Up With Downtown

Posted: Updated:

The Greenwood district wants to be sure it is on the same level with other downtown districts.

Community leaders there want to build a stage a stage for performers of all kinds.

The goal is to attract an audience to see entertainment as well as businesses along the historic area. Abears restaurant owner Cornell Tennyson came up with the idea of the stage.

He also wants to start the tradition of a new "Happy Day on Greenwood" event.

"September the 6th will be our annual Happy Day on Greenwood and we want to use this stage as a launching for that, which will be an annual event where we recognize individuals that have done community service through the week or just get together and enjoy each others company," said Tennyson.

Community leaders include the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and state representative Kevin Matthews, who are all working to raise money for the new stage.
