New Details Released in Case of Police Chief Accused of Molestation

Posted: Updated:
Spavinaw Police Chief Clarence William Gregory, Sr. was released from jail Friday after being arrested on two complaints of lewd molestation.

Gregory was arrested Thursday. He was released Friday after a judge reduced his bond from $150,000 to $100,000.

He is accused of molesting two girls under the age of 16.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the girls told investigators they were inappropriately touched by Gregory multiple time during a period of years.

When he was interviewed by investigators, Gregory said he touched the girls to instruct them on what to not let boys do to them, according to the affidavit.

Spavinaw city officials will meet next week to decide what to do in the interim without a police chief. Officials could appoint an interim chief or ask the sheriff’s office to take over the department.

Officer Bill Curtsinger is holding down the Spavinaw police department while the chief is on leave.

“Without the Mayes County Sheriff's department we would be in hot water for sure,” Curtsinger said.

Some residents are learning of the charges for the first time, residents like James Thompson.

"It bothers me but I can't say either way you know yeah I'm a little upset about it but I'm sure the city will take care of it."
